Syrian opposition figures are claiming that a car bomb that ripped through a Turkish border crossing on Monday was an assassination attempt targeting their delegation. Fourteen people were killed in the blast at the Bab Al-Hawa crossing on the Syrian-Turkish border. Analysis is now pivoting to speculation regarding Ankara’s reaction to the bombing, which is the latest in a string of violent incidents which have spilled across the Syrian border into Turkey. The Turkish military often invades Iraqi territory as part of its conflict with Kurdish groups, but has proven reluctant to intervene into Syria. Turkey lost a jet in June 2012 after it entered Syrian airspace.
