Syria Civil War Increasingly Turning Into Proxy War Between Regional Powers

The civil war in Syria is increasingly turning into a proxy war between regional powers, with Saudi Arabia and Turkey backing the opposition and Iran backing the regime, and it increasingly threatens to expand beyond Syria’s borders. The BBC reports that one of its teams found a cache of weapons addressed from an arms manufacturer to Saudi Arabia at a rebel base in Aleppo, while in Homs regime troops that analysts declared were backed by Hezbollah sought to escalate their attacks on rebels. Regarding regional calculation, Turkey declared that the situation is becoming a “worst case scenario” that may spiral out of control.
