A suspected Iranian agent has been arrested for “scouting” the Israeli Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal “with a harmful intention.” Embassy officials arrested the man and transferred him to local authorities after noticing suspicious behavior.
The English-language Himalayan Times reported Saturday that Nepalese police investigators have opened an inquiry into Mohsin Khosravian’s activities, citing his “frequent and suspicious visits” to the Israeli mission. Khosravian is Iranian and is married to a Thai woman who has lived in Bangkok since 2004.
The plot comes amid several others linked to Iran and its Lebanese terror proxy Hezbollah conducted by agents traveling on multiple passports, including multiple ones in Bulgaria and another in Cyprus. The suspect was carrying a fake Israeli passport:
According to Nepalese press reports, Khosravian has lived in Bangkok since 2004. He “hid his Iranian passport (P 95434382) and used a fake Israeli passport (14517227) — issued in the name of Alexander — to get the ‘on arrival’ visa at the Tribhuvan International Airport on April 3,” The Himalayan Times reported. Khosravian was reported to have acquired the fake Israeli passport in Kuala Lumpur. He’d entered Malaysia with his Iranian passport on March 31, and recently traveled to Sri Lanka.
Nepal is a prime destination for Israeli tourists, particularly young travelers with limited budgets. Kathmandu’s Chabad center hosts a massive annual Passover seder – possibly the world’s largest – and has even become the subject of a popular Israeli drama series by the same name.
A year ago Israeli diplomats were targeted near Israeli missions in New Delhi and Tbilisi, Georgia, and days later a similar attack was botched in Bangkok. Iran was linked to all three.
