Reuters Attempts To Cut Through Noise Of Israel’s Election

A Reuters report this morning attempts to cut through the noise of Israel’s heavily polled January 22 election, emphasizing that the race remains largely stable despite fluctuations within Israel’s center-right and center-left blocs. The analysis is in tension with coverage from Israeli political analysts to the effect that the Likud is in free fall. In contrast, Reuters outlines a variety of polls, some of which show a dramatic erosion in the position of incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party and others that do not.  Regardless, the broad contours of the polling remain as they have been since the election’s announcement late last year: a majority center-right bloc anchored by a dominant Likud, and a fractured center-left.
