The family of Palestinian terrorist Salam Zaghal, who earlier this week stabbed to death Israeli Evyatar Borovsky in a West Bank attack, is pretty proud of the murderer:
“It was destiny, and we take pride in him as a family. What he did is a duty for all Palestinians living with the aggression of the army and settlers,” his elderly father Assad said, sitting with glum relatives in a circle of plastic chairs.
Zaghal’s father is not the only one in the West Bank celebrating the murder. The stabbing has been greeted positively across swaths of the West Bank, and even official outlets of the ruling Fatah faction have praised the killer. The Western-backed organization’s Facebook page – where anti-Israel incitement is becoming increasingly common – presented a particularly stark example:
Fatah’s Facebook page is celebrating the murder and glorifying the murderer. Pictures of the terrorist and the victim were posted by Fatah’s Facebook administrator and the text calls the murderer: “The hero, the released prisoner, Salam Al-Zaghal.”
Officials from the Palestinian Mujahideen group – an offshoot of Fatah – also celebrated the stabbing:
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Mujahideen movement, an Islamist offshoot of Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Brigades, congratulated the perpetrator of Tuesday’s fatal stabbing attack. “We welcome any act of resistance against this corrupt enemy,” said the movement’s spokesman, Abu-Omar, in a statement published on the movement’s website.
The celebrations and exhortations for more violence will deepen skepticism regarding the readiness of Palestinian civil society to accept a lasting and robust peace deal with the Jewish state.
