Syria: Israel conducted an air defense drill simulating a possible attack by Syrian and Iranian long-range missiles on Monday, part of a joint military drill with the United States done with an eye on terror organizations and border security threats. The drill comes as an array of destabilizing factors – a looming refugee crisis, multiple border incidents, and the possibility of sustained rocket and mortar fire – converge and threaten to trigger a deterioration of the security situation in the region. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that that he will not allow Israeli borders “to be breached and our citizens to be fired at.”
