The official Twitter feed of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei today lashed out amid renewed peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian officials, emphasizing instead that Israel must be destroyed to make way for a Palestinian state.

The Supreme Leader’s feed added later in the day that Western governments – some of which are facilitating the peace talks – were under “Zionist dominance.” Khamenei predicted mass rebellions would break out in the West once these plots were uncovered:

A series of tweets over the weekend had justified Tehran’s 2009 crackdown against protesters who demonstrated against what was widely perceived to be a rigged election in favor of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. At least 72 people were reportedly killed in the violence.
