The IAEA has issued a carefully worded statement declining to confirm reports that there was an explosion last week in Iran’s underground nuclear bunker at Fordow, a military installation that Iran has filled with over 2,000 centrifuges as part of its atomic program. Satellite imagery taken after the incident is alleged to have occurred also showed no evidence of an explosion. Fordow’s existence was revealed by Western intelligence in 2009. It has been described by U.S. President Barack Obama as “inconsistent with a peaceful [atomic] program.”
