Bulgarian officials are denying reports published in Israeli media that Bulgarian investigators will declare Hezbollah was behind the July 2012 bombing that killed five Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian. The Iran-backed terror group was reported at the time to be plotting several terror attacks against Israeli tourists throughout the region, and the attack carried several Hezbollah signatures, including being marked by a seemingly sophisticated intelligence operation. Sofia’s findings will have continent-wide implications. Several European nations, including France, have strongly resisted U.S. requests to formally designate Hezbollah a terrorist entity. The position would become untenable if a formal finding was made that Hezbollah had launched an attack on European Union soil.
