Netanyahu’s Likud/Beiteinu Political Slate Loses Ground

Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud/Beiteinu political slate lost ground again this week, ahead of the upcoming January 22 general election which will decide the makeup of Israel’s 19th Knesset. The results were published as part of an Israel Radio poll released Thursday. The survey, which carries a 4.5 percent margin of error, is the latest in a series pointing to a decline in the fortunes of the incumbent party, and predicts that the Likud will receive 34 seats in the 120-member parliamentary chamber. Netanyahu’s party has been losing ground to the Jewish Home/National Union list, which has been taking votes from the Likud’s right and is now poised to win 15 seats.
