Six Hamas Terrorists Killed in Gaza Blast; Terror Group Blames Israel

Six Hamas terrorists were killed in a large blast in the center of the Gaza Strip, The Times of Israel reported Saturday.

The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, claimed that six of its members were killed in the explosion and blamed the blast on Israel. A statement from the group said that its personnel were carrying out a “complex security and intelligence operation,” when the explosion they blamed on the “Zionist enemy” occurred. The terror group offered no other details.

Gaza media outlets attributed the explosion to a “work accident,” which usually means that those killed had been working with explosives that detonated prematurely.

Ynet, citing local sources, reported that the men had been attempting to dismantle an Israeli missile that had failed to detonate.

The IDF claims no knowledge of the explosion and said it had nothing to do with it.

Last month four members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), another Iran-backed terror group in Gaza, died in an explosion. While PIJ explained that the explosion took place while the four were involved in unspecified “preparations,” Israel’s Army Radio said that they were carrying explosives in their vehicle when it exploded, suggesting that it was a “work accident.”

The Gaza explosion took place during weeks of violent Hamas-led riots at the border with Israel. The riots — being held under the guise of the “March of Return” — are not nonviolent as claimed by Hamas but serve as a cover for assaults on Israeli soldiers and the border fence. Underlying the riots is the goal of destroying Israel.

In addition to efforts to breach the border fence, this past week saw rioters start fires inside Israel with kites carrying burning fuel, and rioters burning down the Kerem Shalom crossing, through which humanitarian aid is brought from Israel into Gaza. The rioters also destroyed pipes bringing much-needed gas into Gaza.

Israel holds Hamas, which exercises political and military control over Gaza, responsible for all violence emanating from the enclave.
