62 Percent Of Americans Support The Use Of Force To Stop Iran From Developing Nuclear Weapons

A solid majority of Americans – 62 percent – support the use of force to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, according to a new poll by the Foreign Policy Initiative. 45 percent of respondents also named the Islamic Republic as the country posing “the most danger” to U.S. national security interests. The poll comes as Israel seeks to heighten global awareness of the dangers posed by Iran’s drive for nuclear weapons capability.

In his speech to the U.N. General Assembly last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dramatically drew a “red line” on an illustration of an Iranian bomb. The French newspaper Le Monde described the rhetorical gesture as successful, writing that “Netanyahu’s strategy paid off… thanks to the simplicity of the presentation, and the diagram.” The result, according to the newspaper, was that Netanyahu’s “message has dominated the Internet.”
