WATCH: Ethiopian Teen, Who Sang Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold,” Wins X-Factor Israel

Eden Alene, 17, of Jerusalem, whose rendition of Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold” wowed the judges on X-Factor Israel, won the competition, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported Thursday.

After being announced as the winner, Alene, who was raised by her single, Orthodox Jewish mother, hugged her mentor, Ivri Lider. As winner of the competition, Alene received a recording contract.

The video of Alene’s audition singing “Stone Cold” by Demi Lovato went viral in October.

Over the course of the competition, Alene received the most votes from the viewing audience. Her final performance on X-Factor was of Christina Perri’s “Human.”

The aspiring singer wears numerous rubber bracelets, which remind her of happy experiences. Her favorite is one from a workshop at Yale University, in which she sang in a mixed Jewish and Arab choir promoting coexistence.

Alene, who had attended a religious middle school before switching to a secular high school, says that she still observes Shabbat when she is home with her mother.

She hopes that her performance on the televised competition will reflect well on the Ethiopian community in Israel. “Every Ethiopian represents the Ethiopian community,” Alene said in an interview with Israel Hayom.
