Netanyahu: Israeli Intelligence Has Prevented Several Dozen Major Terror Attacks in Europe

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday told a meeting of Ambassadors representing NATO member states that Israel has prevented many terror attacks within European countries.

He was speaking at a lunch event chaired by Greek Ambassador Bikas Konstantinos, which British Ambassador to Israel David Quarrey also attended.

Netanyahu told the attendees that Israeli intelligence services had “provided information that has stopped several dozen major terrorist attacks, many of them in European countries. Some of these could have been mass attacks, of the worst kind that you have experienced on the soil of Europe and even worse, because they involve civil aviation”.

Turning to Iran, Netanyahu told the Ambassadors that the Islamic Republic is dangerous: “because this radical ideology seeks to acquire nuclear weapons” and “because they’re trying to establish an empire, a territorial empire from Tehran to Tartus in the Mediterranean”.

He also warned that Iran’s “plans of conquest and colonisation of Syria” would lead to problems for Europe. “They want to bring in as many as 100,000 Shiite fighters, non-Iranians under Iranian command… you’ll have the son of ISIS and the grandson of al-Qaeda that will be fighting this new Shiite force. So my message to you today is, radical Islam, either Shiite or Sunni, threatens all of us. Israel is fighting both. Israel seeks your cooperation.”

Netanyahu also reflected on the great cooperation and natural alliance between NATO and Israel.
