Hamas Mocks Family of Fallen Soldier

In an apparent attempt to convince the Israeli government to make a deal for the return of the body of Hadar Goldin, who was killed in an ambush in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge in 2014, Hamas mocked his mother on social media, telling her to pressure the government for the return of her son’s body.

Hamas, the terrorist group that maintains complete military and political control over the Gaza Strip addressed Goldin’s mother Leah on Twitter, saying, “if you want to see your son, you have to turn to your government because it hides the truth and it knows the solution.”

Washington’s envoy to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, met with Goldin’s parents in February of last year.

The Goldins asked Ambassador Haley to help pressure Hamas to return the body of their son, Hadar, and that of another Israeli soldier, Oron Shaul, both of whom were killed during Operation Protective Edge in 2014.

Hadar was killed and his body taken when his unit was ambushed by Hamas fighters on August 1, 2014, in violation of a UN-arranged ceasefire. A member of his unit, Jonny S., later described the circumstances of the ambush to Tower Magazine contributor Yardena Schwartz. Shaul was killed along with six other Israeli soldiers on July 20, 2014, when his armored personnel carrier was struck in the eastern Gaza Strip.

A year ago, Hamas released a video mocking Shaul, whose body was also seized by the terrorist group during Operation Protective Edge in 2014, in an apparent attempt to pressure Israel to make concessions for the release of his body.

Despite the attempt to gain concessions from Israel through the release of the video, Hamas subsequently refused an offer from Israel to release the bodies of the two soldiers in exchange for demilitarization.
