Ex-CIA Officer Resigns from Ploughshares After Posting Anti-Semitic Tweet

Valerie Plame, a controversial former CIA agent, resigned from the Ploughshares Fund following her tweet promoting an anti-Semitic article last week, The Hill reported Sunday.

The article from the Unz Review alleged that Jews were behind most of the wars waged by the United States.

Plame subsequently apologized for and deleted her initial tweet. One of her tweets said, “OK folks, look, I messed up. I skimmed this piece, zeroed in on the neocon criticism, and shared it without seeing and considering the rest.” However critics noted that the title of the article she retweeted was “America’s Jews Are Driving America’s Wars,” which should have been an indication of the nature of its content.

Despite the apologies, Plame later resigned, writing on Twitter, “Actions have consequences, and while I have been honored to serve on the board of the Ploughshares Fund…to avoid detracting from their mission, I have resigned.”

Ploughshares, was a major promoter of the nuclear deal with Iran, even funded programming at NPR that covered the deal. In his support of the deal, Ploughshares president Joe Cirincione also used similar rhetoric that was retweeted by Plame and ultimately led to her resignation.
