Israeli Defense Firm Unveils Revolutionary New Anti-Drone System

The Israeli defense manufacturer Elbit is set to unveil a revolutionary new anti-drone system this week in Tel Aviv.

The system, called ReDrone, can be deployed to neutralize a range of radio frequencies used to control drones. Once a hostile drone is detected, ReDrone can prevent the target from receiving the radio signal that is controlling it. ReDrone can block radio and video signals and GPS positioning data, and even send it off track, preventing it from carrying out an attack. The system can also be integrated with Elbit’s infrared detection system.

In recent years, Iran has provided drone technology and parts to the terror groups Hezbollah and Hamas, which have used them to attempt drone attacks on Israel.

A suspected Hezbollah drone was detected over Israeli airspace in July. Attempts to shoot it down were unsuccessful before it returned to Syria. It was reported in 2015 that Hezbollah maintains a secret drone base in Lebanon. Israel did succeed in shooting down a Hamas drone in August before it was able to enter Israeli territory. The police and border patrol have twice stopped efforts to smuggle drone technology into Gaza.
