A video released Tuesday by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) shows the killing of an Arab-Israeli recruit, who had left his home to join ISIS, for purportedly being a spy.
The Times of Israel reports:
In the video, Muhammad Said Ismail Musallam, 20, was seen kneeling in an orange jumpsuit before an armed man and a teenage boy. The boy appeared to shoot Musallam repeatedly with a pistol.
The other man, speaking in French, issued a tirade against the Jews, including praise for a recent terrorist attack in Paris in which four Jewish men were killed at a kosher supermarket, and threatened to attack Israel.
“O Jews, indeed Allah has gifted us with killing your followers in your own stronghold in France. As for here in the Islamic State, here are the young lions of the Khilafah,” the IS member said, referring to the groups of children the jihadists train to become future fighters. “They will kill the one sent by the foolish Mossad to spy on the secrets of the mujahidin and the Muslims.”
According to the Times, Musallem left home four months ago to join ISIS in Syria. Some time after joining ISIS, Musallem contacted his family saying that he wanted to return home. Over a month ago, Musallem’ family was informed that he had been captured trying to escape into Turkey.
ISIS first revealed a month ago that it was holding Musallem. The terror group published an interview with Musallem in which he said that he was recruited to the Mossad by his Jewish neighbor, a police officer.
Fox News reports:
One of the most frightening aspects of the video, according to Veryan Khan, editorial director of the Florida-based Terrorism Research & Analysis Consortium, is the threat at the end made against specific Mossad agents, which in addition to providing their names in English and Arabic on a “hit list,” also lists their home addresses and maps of their locations. …
While the Mossad are notable targets, ISIS makes an international appeal in the video, Khan said.
“In this video, ISIS appeals to the Palestine people saying ‘we haven’t forgotten your plight’ and issues a call to French speaking fighters, saying ‘Your voice is powerful within the state, and your foreign fighters hold key glamorous positions.’ To the English speaking audience, they seek potential recruits and political leaders. To Israel, they say “You are not safe, we know who you are and where you live.
ISIS recently has been reported to be suffering increasingly from internal dissent and has been executing deserters. In certain areas, it has been recruiting children to join its fighters because it hasn’t been able to recruit adults.
