Shimon Peres Bows Out with Comic Panache

After a controversial career in politics, Shimon Peres reinvented himself as Israel’s president–and redefined the presidency. Now he has done the same with being an ex-president–and you have to admire the way he has begun his latest phase with a video launched this week showing a rather different face of the nonagenarian.

Produced by his granddaughter Mika Almog, the video is simply titled Former Israeli President Shimon Peres Goes Job Hunting.

More than a quarter of a million people have already viewed the mini-movie, which only went online on September 22.

Peres, who proved during his presidency that he is prepared to do pretty much everything in order to get across his messages of peace, ecology and hi-tech development, dons a variety of unexpected uniforms in the clip, which concludes with him seemingly jumping freefall from an airplane.

The international media has picked up on the film, adding to general public interest. Among those helping Mr. Peres to go viral are NBC and The Telegraph and of course the Israeli and Jewish media such as The Israel Project, publisher of The Tower, where the clip has so far been shared 7,800 times.
