Victim of Sinai Beheading Accused of Working for Mossad

A headless corpse was discovered Wednesday by residents of the northern Sinai, bearing a note accusing the victim of spying for Israel.

Reuters reports:

Residents from a village south of the town of Sheikh Zuweid in northern Sinai told Reuters by phone that the decapitated body bore a note signed by Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, saying he was an agent for Israeli spy agency Mossad.

“This is the fate of all who prove to be traitors to their homeland,” the group said in the note, according to the villagers.

According to Reuters, this was the eighth person beheaded by Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis in the past month. An official of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis told Reuters that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) “had been advising the Sinai-based group on how to operate more effectively.”

In August, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis beheaded four men and posted a video of their executions, “which resembled images posted on the Internet by Islamic State.”
