Iran Unveils Latest Missile, Radar Systems

On Monday, Tehran unveiled its Talash-3 surface-to-air missile, which Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili says will be able to “shoot down any hostile target,” even at high altitudes.

Iran claims it recently test-fired the Talash-3 with success.

The Talash systems can be fired to low, medium, high and very high altitudes, the general said.

Esmaili also announced the introduction of the Keyhan and Arash-2 radar systems.

Keyhan is a 2-dimensional long-range radar, capable of discovering large number of aerial targets including stealth bombers, Esmaili said.

He added that the Radar uses hybrid frequencies, and its superiority to the previous model- Shahab Radar is that it is tactical and mobile.

The Arash 2 radar system is capable of monitoring targets within the range of 100,000 feet, with coverage capacity 360 degree, the commander said.

Arash 2 is reportedly “capable of receiving and processing flight information received from air traffic control system. The system “sends the  [flight] plans of planes for air defense commanding control zones.”

Further achievements in air defense will be displayed during a September 22 military parade.

“Since last year, 4 systems have become fully operational, which will be unveiled and added to the air defense cycle soon.” “One of these systems is a long-range space radar with combined frequencies and the capability of discovering small flying objects and cruise missiles.”
