Day 50 – Ceasefire Declared

Today was the fiftieth day of Operation Protective Edge.

Israel and Hamas agreed to an open-ended ceasefire, which went into effect at 7 PM local time. If the ceasefire holds, it will be followed by a period of Egyptian-brokered negotiations.

Despite increasingly common claims that the best way to combat the terrorist group ISIS is to ally with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a prominent Emirati journalist, Hassan Hassan, forcefully argued in The New York Times that Assad, in fact, has “allowed ISIS to grow and fester.”

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps has threatened to “accelerate” its arming of Palestinian terror groups. Iran has supplied rockets and even drones to Hamas in Gaza.
