Day 44 – Rocket Fire Continues; Yazidis Against Genocide; Free WiFi in Israel

Today was the forty-fourth day of Operation Protective Edge.

According to the IDF, the terrorist organization Hamas has launched more than 175 rockets into Israel since it broke the ceasefire at 4 PM yesterday.

The Jerusalem Post reports:

Since the collapse of the cease-fire, Palestinians in Gaza have launched dozens of rockets and mortars at Israel, pounding the western Negev. Ashkelon, Ashdod, and the smaller communities within just a few kilometers of the Gaza border have absorbed the worst barrages since before dawn on Wednesday. …

Terror groups in Gaza have fired more than 30 rockets since midnight, and the air force struck more than 50 targets. Iron Dome intercepted several projectiles over southern cities and towns, including Ashdod and Kiryat Gat. Approximately 100 rockets have been fired in total since Hamas broke the cease-fire at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gaza medical officials reported that 16 people have been killed in Gaza since the renewal of hostilities.

It remains unclear whether or not terrorist mastermind Mohammad Deif was killed in last night’s attack on his house.

Today The Tower covered a Yazidi demonstration against genocide in Geneva. The group called for international action against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) for its violent campaign against Yazidis and Christians in Iraq. Hillel Neuer, executive direction of UN Watch presented a petition to the United Nations Human Rights Council to call an emergency session to address the ongoing killing.

Israel21C reported that a new law in Israel allows Israelis to access WiFi more widely than ever.

A report in the Arab language Al-Hayat newspaper claims that Qatar undermined Egyptian ceasefire efforts by threatening to expel Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, if Hamas accepted the Egyptian agreement.

French President Francois Hollande today called for Hamas to be disarmed as necessary step to stemming the violence in the Middle East. His call echoes that of the European Union’s foreign ministers, as well as top American officials.

German Minister of Development Gerd Müller accused Qatar of funding ISIS. His remarks echoed similar ones made by American Treasury Department official David Cohen, earlier this year. Israeli officials have also made similar charges.

At a State Department briefing yesterday, spokesperson Marie Harf put full blame on Hamas for breaking the ceasefire. Hamas not only took credit for the rocket fire, but also boasted that it was aiming for Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport.

At a conference in Turkey, Saleh al Arouri, who is in charge of Hamas’ terror operations in the West Bank, praised the Al Qassam Brigades for kidnapping and killing Israeli teenagers Eyal Yifrach, Gil-ad Shaar and Naftali Fraenkel. The Brigades are responsible for executing Hamas’ terror attacks. This is the clearest acknowledgement yet that Hamas was responsible for the kidnappings.
