Day 42 – Indians March for Israel; ElMinda Gets FDA Approval; Shin Bet, IDF Break Up Hamas Plot

Today was the forty second day of Operation Protective Edge.

Sources have confirmed that the ceasefire that was to expire at midnight has been extended another 24 hours at Egypt’s request, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that “the Israel Defense Forces is gearing up for a very forceful response if the fire resumes.”

The Tower today covered Saturday’s pro-Israel demonstration in Kolkata (Calcutta) in the Indian province of West Bengal. 20,000 people participated in what was called the “the biggest pro-Israel, anti-terrorist rally” in India recently.

Israel21C reported today that an Israeli company ElMinda received FDA approval for its Brain Network Activity (BNA) System, a non-invasive device for measuring brain activity that can detect problems in brain function.

Security sources in Israel reported that during Operation Protective Edge Iran launched major cyber attack against Israeli targets. According to a source the scope of the attacks was unprecedented, saying, “we haven’t seen an attempt like this before.” While most of the targets were civilian – and most attacks were repelled – the hackers did get control of the IDF’s Twitter account.

During the day the Shin Bet and the IDF released details of a coup plotted by Hamas against the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank that was broken up by Israeli authorities. The discovery of the cell behind this attempt suggests “that concerns of a vast strengthening of Hamas in the weeks leading up to the kidnapping of three Israelis by Hamas members were far better founded than has been previously understood.”

Kurdish and Iraqi troops, backed by American air power, reportedly retook the Mosul dam that had been captured by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) last week. It was uncertain that the dam had been secured due to booby traps placed there by ISIS, but ISIS had been driven out of the dam complex.

Sen. Charles Schumer lashed out at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) last week and suggested that if council didn’t rescind its appointment of controversial anti-Israel professor, William Schabas, from the panel appointed to investigate Israeli military operations in Gaza the United States should stop funding the council.

Talking to a group of American Jewish leaders last Friday, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power blasted the UNHRC saying, according to a source at the meeting, that it is “incapable of engaging constructively on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
