Arrests Made in Murders of Jewish Woman, Arab Teen

Israel has arrested at least six people in connection with the July 2 murder in Jerusalem of Arab teenager Muhammed Abu Khdeir.

As a result of the 17 year old’s killing widespread rioting erupted in Jerusalem, northern Israel and parts of the West Bank.

Palestinians have claimed that the murder was carried out by Jews in revenge for the kidnap and murder of three Israeli teens last month.

Amid calls for a third intifada, thousands of Palestinians gathered in east Jerusalem on Friday during a violent and highly charged funeral procession for the murdered teen.

Likewise there was a noticeable upswing in rockets from Gaza in the four days since the killing. At least 110 rockets and mortars were fired.

Those arrested are all Jewish and come from Jerusalem, Adam (just north of the capital) and Beit Shemesh. Two or three of the suspects are minors, according to a briefing from the Jerusalem police force.

“While this is extremely difficult for Israeli Jews to swallow, it shows the rule of law is ever present in this state with what is right now a volatile situation between Arab and Jewish Israelis,” said David Harris, research and content director at The Israel Project. “The government and security bodies are doing what they can to restore calm.”

Meanwhile, in northern Israel , the family of Shelly Dadon, a young Jewish woman killed two months ago by an Arab taxi driver say this too was a terror attack.

On the day of the murder, he was waiting at a cab stand in the center of town when he was approached by Dadon, who asked for a ride to the industrial area, where she was scheduled to have a job interview, police said.

Instead of dropping her off, Khalifa took her to an abandoned parking lot near her intended destination, and stabbed her to death before fleeing the scene.
