Despite Palestinian Pledge, 56 Rockets from Hamas’ Gaza in Two Weeks

Despite the promise from Palestinian Authority President Mahmnoud Abbas that the new government he created with Hamas would reject violence, some 56 rockets have been fired from Hamas’ Gaza stronghold in the two weeks since three Israeli teens were abducted.

The latest barrage on Saturday night led to the destruction of a factory in the Israeli town Sderot, which lies just a mile from Gaza.

Another rocket fired in the salvo landed in the Nativ Ha’asarah area north of the Strip but caused no damage or injuries. The Code Red rocket siren was sounded in two communities in southern Israel ahead of the attack. Alerts also went off in the Hof Asheklon Regional Council and the Sha’ar Henegev Regional Council.

At around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired two more rockets at southern Israel. The projectiles triggered warning sirens, and exploded in open areas in the Sdot Negev region, failing to cause injuries or damages.

Among those saying the new Palestinian government must be held accountable was Israeli Justice Minister Tzipi Livni.

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon made clear the country will not sit by idly as Israeli civilians are targeted by terrorists.

“…we will continue operating with a firm hand against terrorists who fire at Israel, and we will strike them a painful blow.”
