With Ofek 10 Launch, Ya’alon Praises Industry’s “Exceptional Quality, Creativity”

Twenty-five years after Israel launched its first reconnaissance satellite, the country sent Ofek 10 into space on April 9, with the promise that it can operate continuously, despite intense cloud cover and other harsh climatic conditions.

Ofek 10 is an earth-observing remote-sensing satellite that employs synthetic aperture radar technology with advanced “high- resolution” imagery, “capable of operating day or night and in all weather conditions.”

An array of satellites is just one of the methods Israel uses to keep tabs on the threats from Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other organizations dedicated to attacking the Jewish state.

Israel is one of a dozen nations with advanced satellite capabilities – Ofek 10 was built by Israel Aerospace Industries for the country’s Defense Ministry. It is a source of intense pride in addition to giving Israel a major edge in protecting its citizens from some of its enemies, a view espoused by Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon in a statement published on April 10.

“The successful launch of the Ofek 10 satellite last night is further evidence of the impressive ability of the State of Israel to develop and be at the forefront of technology…Israel is blessed with a security industry of exceptional quality, creativity and commitment to the security of the state and its citizens…It is this that gives us all the opportunity to live a blossoming, thriving life.”
